What is top rope climbing?

Top rope climbing is a type of climbing where the climber is securely attached to a rope that runs through an anchor point at the top of the climb. This type of climbing is considered to be one of the safest forms of climbing, as the rope is typically supported by a belayer on the ground who can assist the climber if needed.

In top rope climbing, the climber ascends the wall while the rope is securely attached to their harness via a locking carabiner. The belayer at the bottom of the climb takes in the slack as the climber ascends and is responsible for catching the climber in the event of a fall.

Top rope climbing is popular among beginners and experienced climbers alike, as it allows for a safe and controlled climbing experience. It can be done indoors at climbing gyms or outdoors on natural rock formations. Climbers must be trained in proper belaying techniques and safety procedures before attempting top rope climbing.
